Hello A-J readers!
July seems to have slowed down, business-wise, this week. So, instead of the week’s highlights, I’m going to give you the update on which businesses are in the running for my (unofficial) Best Of 2026 new businesses at the moment.
In retail/experience, we have Critical Whiskers, 2155A 50th St., a gaming shop and cat lounge where people can play with adoptable cats. As both a gamer and appreciator of cats, this is pretty top tier at the moment since it opened in June.
Flix Brewhouse, 120 W. Loop 289 Access Road, has also impressed me since taking over the former Alamo Drafthouse in February. I heard new seats will be installed sometime in the next month or two, and once they do, it may become my go-to movie theater.
For restaurants, there are some seriously delicious options.
We still have about five months to go, so things could change. Do you have a favorite new business you think should be in the running? If so, feel free to reach out to me via email.
Going into next week, I’m hoping to meet with local farmers markets, and their vendors, to learn how the ongoing agricultural outbreaks are affecting them, and how shoppers can stay safe. We should also see the return of the review team, possibly with new faces, to choose the best jerky in the area. Stay tuned and, as always, thank you for reading and supporting the A-J.
