Calallen’s Coll Carroll took dominance to another level in Game 1 of the Class 4A Division I bi-district baseball series against Hidalgo.
One of the Wildcats dual aces — and Texas State signee — was perfect in the five inning run-rule shortened 13-0 win with all 15 outs coming via strikeout.
Calallen began its quest to repeat as Class 4A Division I state champions in dominant fashion on the road in Hidalgo, as Drayton Mitchell was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and four RBIs and Wyatt Duke and Colter Portales each brought in two.
The Wildcats pounded out 11 hits and drew nine walks, but Carroll didn’t need any help as he carved up Hidalgo. Carroll improved to 8-1 on the season with his second 15-strikeout performance of the season, the other coming in a 4-0 no-hitter against Laredo United on March 11.
It was the second straight season that Carroll hurled a no-hitter in the bi-district playoffs, after beating Valley View in the same round in 2025.
The series is scheduled to continue at 3 p.m. Friday, May 1 at Calallen’s Steve Chapman Field, where the Wildcats will look to close out the series.
