Arizona releases more details on death of Wichita Falls woman

The Arizona Department of Public Safety has released more information on a trooper-involved shooting that claimed the life of a Wichita Falls woman.

A release issued Tuesday stated Berkleigh Jade Bond, 39, was stopped on May 25 by a trooper for allegedly driving a 2013 Cadillac SUV 95 mph in a 75-mph zone.

The release said Bond gave the trooper a false ID and resisted when he tried to arrest her on allegations of fictitious license plates, false ID, and felony warrants.

The trooper deployed his Taser, but Bond ran back to her vehicle, with the trooper in pursuit,” the release said. “Bond continued to resist, and before the trooper could regain control, Bond shifted the vehicle into drive and began accelerating, with the trooper partially hanging out of the vehicle. The trooper fired at Bond, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.”

The release did not identify the trooper but said he had 28 years of law enforcement experience.

It also said he was injured during the incident, was taken to a hospital, and has since been released.

The release said the incident happened on westbound Interstate 10 northeast of Benson, about 45miles east of Tucson.
