The Amarillo Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is seeking the community’s help in locating a wanted fugitive after an early Sunday morning aggravated kidnapping incident and shooting that left a security guard injured.

At about 3 a.m. June 29, Amarillo officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North Fillmore in response to a reported shooting. Police said officers found a suspect had fired an AR-style rifle at a woman who was later reported to be his wife. Police said Vidana-Najera shot a security guard who was attempting to intervene.

APD said the security guard was promptly taken to a local hospital, and his condition was stable, according to the community police update.

According to police, Vidana-Najera forced the victim into a black Dodge Ram pickup truck at gunpoint. Officers were unable to make contact with the woman via cell phone, and later, she was reported missing by her family. “Authorities were able to determine direction of travel after they located the victim’s phone in the roadway near Happy, Texas,” the update states. “A statewide all-points bulletin (APB) was issued in attempts to locate the suspect, victim, and vehicle. The vehicle was witnessed in Odessa, Texas. Authorities in Odessa were contacted to intercept the vehicle; however, the vehicle and occupants were not located. Fortunately, the vehicle and victim were located by DPS and Lubbock PD in Lubbock, Texas.”

The last known location of Vidana-Najera is in the Odessa area.

Vidana-Najera currently has arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping.

This case is still under investigation and is being investigated by the Amarillo Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit.

If you see or have contact with Vidana-Najera, call 911 or Amarillo Crime Stoppers tip line at 806-374-4400 or submit a tip through the P3 app. Vidana-Najera should be considered armed and dangerous.
