Six people were injured in a shooting Wednesday night at an Amarillo apartment complex, police said Thursday, June 18. Four people have since been arrested and charged in connection to the incident.
The Amarillo Police Department (APD) said officers responded to the 5900 block of Plum Creek at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 on a report of shots being fired.
According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that two individuals involved in a gang-related dispute at Plum Creek Apartments became involved in an argument, which escalated when the two individuals began shooting, striking each other and four others who were in the immediate vicinity.
All six individuals were taken to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries, APD said.
In addition to APD officers, personnel from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Potter County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
A suspected shooter was apprehended by DPS while leaving the area.
Through continued investigation by Amarillo Police Department Violent Crimes Detectives, Task Force Officers, and officers and professional staff from the Amarillo Regional Crime Center (ARCC), three additional arrests were made, APD said Friday, June 19.
Davion Ashley, 18, was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was also charged with resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer.
Jacob Jimenez Jr., 20, was identified as a suspect during the investigation. Detectives obtained a warrant charging him with tampering with evidence. He was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on the warrant, as well as on-view charges of resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance PG2 over 4 ounces, and tampering/fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair.
Awetik Rahma, 18, was arrested on a warrant for tampering/fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
APD said earlier that Jeremiah Hunter, 18, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Potter County Jail.
APD Detectives, including Violent Crimes and Homicide, CSI, ARCC and the Gang Unit continue to investigate the incident. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
