Will Anderson Jr. and Azeez Al-Shaair might not be the favorites to win an award come Thursday evening in San Francisco, but they are among those in contention at the NFL Honors.
Anderson, who continued his reign as the Houston Texans’ top defensive player since J.J. Watt, is up for the Defensive Player of the Year Award opposite heavy favorite and reigning champion Myles Garrett. The Cleveland Browns’ defensive end broke Michael Strahan’s record of 22 sacks with 23 this past fall and notched a career-high 33 tackles for loss.
The first-time All-Pro finished top 10 in sacks (12), tackles for loss (20) and QB hits (23) en route to serving as the anchor of the league’s No. 1 defense. As for Al-Shaair, the captain of the Texans’ defense is up for the Walter Payton Man of the Year honor as Houston’s representative.
