El Paso County sheriff’s deputies arrested two women accused of repeatedly crashing into another vehicle during a chase linked to a child custody exchange in Sparks.
Ebony Martinez, 24, the mother of the 2-year-old child, and her friend, Araceli Uzeta, also 24, were arrested in connection with a violent chase on Tuesday, March 31, in the Sparks area, southwest of Horizon City, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release.
Deputies dispatched on a call of an aggravated assault in progress met with the alleged victims on Dickens Road, who claimed that the toddler’s mother, Martinez, became aggressive during a custody exchange, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Martinez and Uzeta allegedly had the toddler with them inside their vehicle, which was allegedly used to intentionally hit the other group’s vehicle several times during a brief chase in Sparks, sheriff’s officials said. The chase allegedly placed the child in imminent danger.
Deputies later located and impounded the vehicle and arrested Uzeta and later arrested Martinez without incident, officials said.
Both women were arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (the vehicle) and endangering a child, the Sheriff’s Office stated.
Uzeta is being held on a total bond of $60,000 at the El Paso County jail in Downtown, according to a jail log.
Martinez is jailed under a $30,000 total bond on the assault case and no bond on a warrant on a driving while intoxicated with a child case from 2022.
Both remained incarcerated as of Thursday, April 2. No attorney is listed for them on court records.
