Two teenagers are charged with sexual assault after investigators said a woman found videos on her phone of them raping her while she was intoxicated.
A Lubbock County grand jury on May 26 returned an indictment charging 19-year-old Joshua Lewis and 18-year-old Anthony Jaramillo-Medrano with sexual assault, a second-degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 20 years in prison.
Their charges stem from a Lubbock police investigation that began on March 1 after a woman called police to report being sexually assaulted.
The woman told investigators that while having dinner with a friend, she was looking through her phone’s album and found videos that recorded her being raped, according to an arrest warrant.
The woman told investigators she had no recollection of the assault, according to court documents.
She said she met the two a few weeks before at a club and contacted each other through Instagram.
The woman said Jaramillo-Medrano contacted her through the social media account and asked if she wanted to meet.
She told investigators both men, whom she identified through a photo lineup, fetched her from her apartment in a white sedan.
She said the men were drinking shots of vodka in the vehicle.
She said she had a shot of vodka, after which her memory of the night mostly disappeared.
The woman said the last thing she remembered was being dropped off at an apartment complex that she did not live in.
She told investigators she didn’t have any more recollection of the night until she woke up that morning at 7 a.m.
The videos appeared to depict Jaramillo-Medrano and Lewis raping the woman in a vehicle while she was intoxicated.
Court documents state the woman went to Covenant Medical Center for a sexual assault exam.
Lubbock police arrested Lewis on April 24 and he was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center where investigators collected his DNA.
Jail records show Jaramillo-Medrano was arrested May 5.
Both men remain held at the Lubbock County Detention Center. Their bonds are set at $200,000 each.
Jaramillo-Medrano is being represented by Lubbock attorney Cardine Watson.
Lewis is being represented by Audie Reese.
