She has served as interim CEO since December following the departure of Shana Smith.

Lee has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision and dedication, according to the organization. It cited her continued efforts to strengthen its programs, deepen community partnerships, and position the organization for long-term growth and impact.

“Janelle has proven herself to be a thoughtful, strategic, and compassionate leader,” said Latrice Virola, chair of the YWCA Canton board of directors.

“Her commitment to the mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all has been evident in every aspect of her leadership. The Board is confident that under her direction, YWCA Canton will continue to grow and thrive.”

Prior to her appointment, Lee was director of client engagement at MAGNET, the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, which serves 11 counties in Northeast Ohio.

She also served as an economic development consultant and community engagement officer for Strengthening Stark. She is involved as a community volunteer, and serves on the boards of numerous philanthropic institutions, and civic committees, the YWCA said.

Lee and her husband, Ralph, interim executive director and CEO of SARTA, the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority, reside in Meyers Lake.

The YWCA at 231 Sixth St. NE was founded in 1909. For more information about its programs and services, visit ywcacanton.org.
