A 54-year-old Marion man is dead after a motorcycle wreck May 18.
Shawn Woolum was riding his black 2017 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse south on Ohio 4 about 6:08 p.m., according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol.
That’s when he approached a 16-year-old driver in a red 2011 Kia Forte who was in the northbound lane of Ohio 4, but slowing to turn left onto White Oaks Road in Pleasant Township.
Troopers reported that the motorcycle struck the larger vehicle as it was turning.
“Woolum was transported from the scene by Pleasant Township EMS to Marion General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” OSHP noted. “Woolum was not wearing a helmet.”
The News Journal is withholding the name of the underage driver at this time.
The younger driver was taken by Marion Township EMS to Marion General Hospital with minor injuries.
The Ohio Highway Patrol was helped by Pleasant Township Fire and EMS, Marion Township EMS, Kirby’s Towing and Precision Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
