Akron Fire personnel were dispatched to the house, located between East Buchtel Avenue and East Exchange Street, at about 8:45 a.m. They found heavy smoke and fire coming from a 2 1/2-story duplex apartment structure, according to a release from the Akron Fire Department.

Fire crews extinguished fire on the first and second floor and found a woman, who was believed to be in her late 20s, inside the home. She was taken to the burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition, with burns on 90% of her body, according to the fire department.

The woman’s name has not been released.

The State Fire Marshal’s office and the Fire Investigation Unit were called to investigate the cause, which has not yet been determined.
