The countdown is on and Christmas is rapidly approaching. Many people dream of waking up to a fresh pile of snow on Christmas Day. Will the recent winter weather that brought record snowfall to some parts of the state in early December continue and give Ohio a white Christmas in 2025?
Here’s what we know about Ohio’s weather forecast this Christmas.
Will Ohio see a white Christmas? What the forecast shows
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently released its precipitation outlook for the holiday season, including Christmas and New Year’s, for Ohio and the rest of the country.
All portions of Ohio, including Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, and Toledo, are predicted to have an above-average chances of seeing snow on and around Christmas.
The NOAA forecast shows that all of Ohio will have a 40-50% higher chance of seeing precipitation around Christmas and New Year’s. Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland are included in that area of higher precipitation.
Toledo meteorologist Ross Ellet said in a Facebook post that “There is evidence that both the polar jet and subtropical jet will bring storms across the country. If the two jet streams link together, it could bring big storms with heavy precipitation. Both the long-range computer models and the latest weather outlook from the Climate Prediction Center show above-average precipitation across much of the country.”
Because we are predicted to see above-average winter precipitation, Ohio may see snow on Christmas if temperatures fall below freezing.
Will it be cold in Ohio on Christmas?
The NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s Christmas forecast shows that much of northern Ohio should expect normal temperatures for this time of year.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati and the southern portions of the state are likely to have a 33-40% chance of seeing above-average temperatures on Christmas and into the new year.
