Cedar Point opened up as scheduled Friday, July 17.
But the lingering wildfire smoke has caused the park to cancel planned nighttime performances.
The park announced late Friday afternoon that its Boardwalk Nights activities were canceled because of the poor air quality from Canadian wildfires.
Cedar Point also announced that park and its attractions will remain open through 10 p.m. Friday as scheduled.
The park did close three hours early Thursday citing the poor air quality along Lake Erie in Sandusky.
The park’s Boardwalk Nights, featuring a parade and entertainment had been slated to debut Friday night.
Six Flag’s sister park Kings Island outside of Cincinnati remained open Thursday and kept its normal hours.
Great America amusement park − another Six Flags park outside of Chicago − also closed early Thursday.
Other regional amusement parks have announced that they will be closed Friday, including Memphis Kiddie Park outside of Cleveland.
Waldameer Park and Water World in Erie, Pennsylvania, announced that it will be closed Friday because of the hazardous air quality.
Kennywood amusement park in Pittsburgh is also closed.
Citing concerns for the health and safety of guests and workers, the Akron Zoo also closed Friday.
The National Weather Service says the air quality over Northeast Ohio is expected to begin to improve by Friday evening as a warm front moves across the state.
