Vice President JD Vance, a Cincinnati resident and former U.S. senator from Ohio who officially resigned 10 days before being sworn in as VP, took his oath of office Monday alongside President Donald Trump.
So where will Vance and his wife and kids live while he’s in office? Here’s what to know.
Where does the vice president live while in office? Where is JD Vance’s new house? See it on the map
While the vice president’s office is on the grounds of the White House, Vance’s official residence while he serves as vice president is located at the United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., according to the White House.
The white VP house at Number One Observatory Circle, built in 1893, originally was intended for the superintendent of the USNO.
Vice presidents and their families had historically lived in their own homes, according to the White House, but the cost of securing those private residences grew substantially over the years. In 1974, Congress agreed to refurbish the Naval Observatory house as the vice president’s home.
The vice president’s house is roughly 2.5 miles from the White House, per Google Maps.
Where does JD Vance live? Ohio native owns home in Cincinnati
Vance was born in Middletown, Ohio, which is about 40 miles north of Cincinnati, the Enquirer previously reported. Vance’s best-selling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” is about his childhood there.
Currently, he owns a home in Cincinnati’s East Walnut Hills neighborhood, where he’s lived since 2018.
“We love it. Our neighbors are great, and some of our closest friends live within walking distance. We love the natural beauty, especially the old giant trees and the wildlife. It’s hard to believe we’re a few minutes away from downtown, but we see deer and wild turkey every day. It’s the perfect combo of proximity to the city and to nature,” Vance told the Enquirer in an email for a story on what he loves about his neighborhood.
Vance reportedly also owns a house in Virginia near Washington, D.C.
Vance purchased a $1.5 million home in the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia, according to a report from Fox 5 Washington. Alexandria sits on the Potomac River across from the southern tip of the District of Columbia.
What happens to JD Vance’s senate seat? Ohio Gov. DeWine names replacement
With Vance having officially resigned as U.S. Senator on Jan. 10, the task of filling his vacant seat fell to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.
The governor named Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted as Vance’s replacement on Jan. 17. Husted will serve as senator through 2026 and must run in a special election that November if he intends to keep his senate seat.
If Husted runs and wins in 2026, he would serve out the rest of Vance’s term, which ends in 2028. Whoever wins the 2026 special election could then run for reelection in 2028.
Who is JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance?
Vance married Usha Chilukuri Vance in 2014 after the pair met at Yale Law School. She previously worked as a litigator at Munger, Tolles & Olson but left the firm when her husband secured the VP nomination, the Enquirer reported.
How many kids does JD Vance have?
The couple has three young children: Ewan, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, 2.
Is JD Vance the youngest vice president?
JD Vance is 40 years old. That makes him the youngest vice president since Richard Nixon served in the 1950s, the Enquirer reported. Nixon was 39 when Dwight D. Eisenhower chose him as a running mate in 1952, according to the White House.
