Ohio is one of only 17 states that have sales-tax holidays, where certain purchases are exempt from taxes, but Ohio’s 2025 tax-free weekend ends on Aug. 14.

Ohio’s tax-free holiday officially ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation.
How much is Ohio’s sale tax rate?
Ohio has a state-wide 5.75% sales tax rate, though additional local and county taxes push that rate higher, per the Tax Foundation, which states that Ohio’s average state and local sales tax rate comes in at 7.24%.
Are online orders from Amazon, Walmart tax-free in Ohio?
Ohio’s sales tax holiday extends to online orders that meet the criteria. According to Amazon, sales tax holidays are honored at the online retailer and its affiliates.
However, Amazon may still add tax on items if they do not qualify for the holiday. That includes orders over the $500 limit, bundles and orders placed before the holiday starts, as well as specific items that are not included in the holiday.

Meanwhile, Walmart offers an Ohio tax holiday section on its website to shop during the tax-free weekend.
What is included in Ohio’s sales tax holiday this year?
Ohio’s sales-tax holiday isn’t just limited to school supplies. Only a few purchases, such as any item containing marijuana, are excluded, the Columbus Dispatch reports. Dine-in food is also tax-free if it’s less than $500.
Almost all tangible personal property that costs $500 or less is tax-free during those two weeks, according to the state. Examples include (but are not limited to) the following:
