Miami University head coach Travis Steele screamed at officials as he went to the locker room with the RedHawks trailing Western Michigan at halftime, before he pushed over the DJ’s speaker on his way off the court.
Steele was assessed a technical foul for the tantrum, and the Broncos shot free throws to start the second half.
“I don’t even know how I got that technical,” Steele told CBS Sports after the game. “I can’t do that.”
The Miami University RedHawks avoided their first loss of the season Feb. 27 against the Western Michigan Broncos by prevailing 69-67 on former Lakota East standout Trey Perry’s game-winning layup in the final second of the game, and improved to 29-0, 16-0 in the Mid-American Conference.
The RedHawks are ranked No. 21 in the latest AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll released Feb. 23, up from 22nd one week earlier.
Steele said during an interview with Rece Davis on ESPN’s “College GameDay” that he’ll commit to wearing a Speedo and being hoisted in the air while making a swimming motion at the team’s NCAA tournament Selection Sunday watch party, if MU finishes the regular season undefeated and wins the MAC tournament.
