Voting in the Kentucky primary? Early voting polls open May 14

It’s not Primary Election Day in Kentucky, yet. But the polls are already open for people who want to cast a ballot early for offices ranging from U.S. Senate to Congress, judge/executive to mayor, and other local races.

The primary will determine each party’s nominees for the general election in November. But in Northern Kentucky – where many of the political offices have been Republican held for decades – a lot of the races will be determined in the primary.

Kentucky has closed primaries, meaning voters can only cast a ballot if they’re registered as a Republican or Democrat.

Early voting hours are different in each county and polling locations can be different from where people usually vote.

Here’s what you need to know to vote early in each county:

What ID do I need to bring to the polls?

Kentucky requires voters to have proof of identification to cast a ballot. That includes one of the following:

Other photo IDs could be accepted if they meet the criteria listed on the Kentucky Secretary of State website.

People without a valid photo ID can still cast a ballot in the election. But there are additional documents required. Find more information about that here.

What’s on the ballot?

Every county has local races on the ballot and there are links to the sample ballot in the section below. But two races will be on everyone’s ballot in Northern Kentucky.
