On May 5, we will be choosing our candidates for November. The Democratic primary in the Ohio House 49th District will have an extremely important outcome for the future of Canton, Jackson and a portion of Plain Township.
What’s at stake? Ohio has been a one-party controlled state at every branch for years, which has resulted in out-of-control spending, major corruption and little help for local governments. This has led to huge increases in our property taxes to make up for the state’s shortcomings for local parks, libraries, safety and the education of our youth.
Whom we choose to be our Democratic candidate in the 49th may be the difference in breaking through some of the one-party control, or not. This Democratic primary offers us two candidates. One ran two years ago, gave it a try but was unsuccessful and now sports the chance of a rematch against the same multi-term incumbent.
The other is Brit Steiner, who brings an entire new skill set to the race. Brit is a much-needed fresh face for Columbus with a very diverse background and experiences. She has successfully served four U.S. presidents, securing funds for communities, developing important programs and policies, while balancing the joy of being a wife and mother of two.
Let’s be real: Most of us are looking for new ideas and leadership, and I believe Brit Steiner is the choice in this primary election to put our most viable candidate in the general election. Brit Steiner is the candidate who can achieve those goals along with being our much-needed voice in Columbus.
