Abandon the voodoo villains
Republicans’ policy aimed at protecting children fails miserably when subjected to scrutiny. They chose a tough-guy leader in President Donald Trump to go after “woke” Democrats.
They make a big ado about drag shows and librarians they accuse of corrupting children in America, and transgender athletes they accuse of cheating in high school track meets. But these are not the major “villains” that threaten average kids on the block in America.
By contrast, their enthusiasm abruptly wanes on issues that truly endanger children everywhere, and every day.
That guns are the leading killer of kids in America is not a topic they give high priority.
Not to mention the embrace by Trump and officials in his administration of anti-science, anti-regulation policy, like that which contributed to the deaths of young campers who perished from the recent flooding in Texas.
Nor Trump’s cuts to aid around the world that fights hunger among children and provides them with life-saving medicine. Nor his erratic and weak leadership on major wars in which children are treated as collateral damage.
Republicans clearly need to rethink their policies.
They need to abandon the voodoo villains. They need to stop simply falling in line with Trump’s hardline, anti-woke agenda and spending cuts. They need to demand that Trump act like a real “leader of the free world.”
Most of all, they need to end their love affair with guns that show up in the most unwelcome manner imaginable everywhere, every day, in America, including now a church in which children have gone to pray.
Only then will Republicans demonstrate that they believe that the lives of children matter. They absolutely need to do this.

You put the brainworm in charge
Senators Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted:
How many of your constituents do you reckon you will kill before your reigns end?
There’s no hyperbole here: Your votes for the Big BS Bill and your confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Health Secretary will no doubt account for a goodly number.
The Big BS Bill will kill Ohioans by stripping health insurance from hundreds of thousands of them, such that those so stripped will find themselves choosing between eating and seeing a doctor when they are sick.
But confirming RFK Jr. is the clear winner in this contest from hell: in him, you chose a brainworm-addled lunatic who does not even believe in germ theory.
Left to himself, he will return the country to the beliefs held by medieval serfs. His inability to accept the validity of vaccines — the COVID-19 vaccine in particular — could easily add thousands of deaths to the grim toll that virus has taken on Ohioans.
So what say you, senators? How many will you kill with these policies?
I feel sure that one day justice will remove you from the high office neither of you deserves. The only remaining question: How many constituents will die before it does?
