Volunteers, shopping and music drive downtown revival in Coshocton

COSHOCTON − Our Town Coshocton is focused on economic development and revitalization of Downtown Coshocton. One way it does that is through sponsoring events that encourage community engagement, shopping and beautification.

Here are three upcoming initiatives from the organization:

● One Block at a Time is held monthly from March to November. Volunteers work together to clean a specific section of Downtown Coshocton. The next one is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon May 16. Individuals will meet at the gazebo on the Coshocton Court Square. Tasks can include sweeping, picking up trash, weeding and other specific projects along Main Street.

● Hometown Perks, now in its second year, is a shop-local program from May 22 to Sept. 7. It encourages residents and visitors to explore Coshocton’s local businesses. Those who do can acquire a passport at participating businesses and receive stickers as they shop at those outlets. Completed passports can be entered into a prize drawing. The deadline for businesses to register is May 1 and a full list of participating businesses will be released at that time.

● The fifth annual summer concert series starts at 7:30 p.m. June 20, at the Coshocton Court Square with the Ozzy Osbourne tribute act, Blizzard of Oz. Other shows include the Eagles tribute, 7 Bridges, at 7:30 p.m. July 18, Beatles tribute, The Weeklings, at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 and Journey tribute, E5C4P3, at 3 p.m. Sept. 13. All concerts are free and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs. Many local restaurants and bars will be open during the concerts and the city’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area will be in effect, allowing people to have alcoholic beverages outside in marked cups.
