Due to inclement weather on Saturday, volunteers are asked to help put U.S. flags on veterans’ graves in Mansfield Cemetery Friday, May 22, starting at 9 a.m., according to Sue Dell, administrative assistant at Richland County Veterans Service Commission.
Memorial Day Parade still on tap for Monday May 25
The Mansfield Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. May 25, according to the announcement. Parade formation will start at 9 a.m. on Reba Avenue, extending to Gilbert Avenue. The parade route will proceed north on Main Street, then east on Chestnut Street to the entrance of the cemetery. It will continue to the Veterans Honor Grounds for the Memorial Day service.This year, the parade will feature about 40 units, including marching bands, fire trucks, police cars, a sheriff’s car and military equipment, along with veterans and various groups. Due to narrow streets in the cemetery, bands and large vehicles will be directed down Altamont Street instead of passing through the cemetery.
