FREMONT – A vehicle has been seized by police after a hit-and-run left a Fremont man hospitalized. The collision may have been related to an argument.
Contrary to social media banter, police confirmed that no shooting occurred at Delaware Acres Apartments on South Buchanan Street in Fremont.
However, three people were interviewed as part of the investigation into the 33-year-old Fremont man who was taken to Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo after the hit-and-run that occurred about 9:30 p.m. on June 7.
“We have seized the vehicle that we believe was involved. I would definitely describe it as a serious event,” Fremont Police Chief Derek Wensinger said. “Initial calls to the scene did indicate a loud noise, and they believed it was a gunshot. However, when we arrived on the scene, there was no indication that a gunshot occurred; we found no casings, and no one reported injuries from a firearm.”
No charges have yet been filed.
“After a grand jury reviews the circumstances, I would be surprised if there was not a criminal charge,” Wensinger said. “I hope when people see significant events like this, if they are having a fight with somebody or just an argument, that they remember to just take a moment and they can give it some time before having a confrontation, and I hope that cooler heads will prevail. We are keeping an open mind during this investigation.”
