A 17-year-old male has been charged with murder and felonious assault in the July 22 shooting death of a 15 year old.
Officers found Deniro Arnold and an unidentified man with gunshot wounds after responding to calls reporting a shooting just before 6 p.m. that evening. Arnold, a sophomore at Columbus City Schools’ South High School, was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 6:16 p.m.
A 17-year-old male was arrested on charges of murder and felonious assault in the shooting. Jeremiah Willoughby, 19, was charged with felony tampering with evidence and misdemeanor theft. The Dispatch is not naming the juvenile because he has not yet been charged as an adult.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the Franklin County Municipal Court, Willoughby took the man’s backpack and slide sandals after the shooting and brought them inside a nearby apartment. Police believe he meant to obstruct the investigation into the shooting, according to the affidavit.
The Columbus Division of Police has called on the public to help locate Willoughby.
