Trump taps Cincinnati lawyer to be new U.S. Attorney

President Donald Trump has a new nominee to handle federal prosecutions in southern Ohio.

Trump July 1 nominated Dominick Gerace II to replace Parker and oversee cases in the 48 counties in southern Ohio. Gerace previously served as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of Ohio and is a partner with Taft Law Firm. He will need to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Trump fired Ken Parker, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, in February.

Among his cases, Parker prosecuted Larry Householder, the former Ohio Speaker of the House. Householder was convicted for taking bribes in exchange for a $1.3 billion bailout bill to benefit Akron-based FirstEnergy and is now serving 20 years in federal prison.
