The American Heart Association has recognized four hospitals in the Akron and Canton region for their commitment to heart disease and stroke care, including the Summa Health System Akron Campus and Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
These hospitals participate in the association’s Get with the Guidelines program, which works to improve the care and outcomes of patients with heart failure.
Aultman Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital are also part of the list of 102 hospitals across Ohio being recognized, according to a news release.
More than 3,000 hospitals across the country participate in the program, which has been associated with better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality, the release said.
“The program has also been shown to reduce disparities in care for several populations,” the release said. “Since its launch more than two decades ago, millions of patient records have contributed to registries that help drive research and real‑world improvements in cardiovascular care.”
Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States, and stroke is the fourth. Hospitals participating in the program are able to improve evidence-based care through the use of real-time data, clinical best practices and performance feedback, the release said.
“Every 40 seconds, someone in America has a stroke or heart attack,” said Shelley Webber, executive director of the American Heart Association in Northeast Ohio, in the release. “High-quality care should be accessible to all, and sites awarded through the Get With The Guidelines program help work toward our shared vision of health and hope for everyone, everywhere.”
