Beekeeping 101: Kids Edition: Dive into the world of bees at 6 p.m. Aug. 15at Quail Hollow Park. The program will explore how to take care of a hive and check out the cool tools beekeepers use to keep bees happy and healthy. Kids will get to suit up like real beekeepers and safely see the bees in action at Stark Parks’ live hive. Participants should wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and closed-toe shoes for the hive visit. The program is for ages 8 to 12, and registration is required. Fee is $5 for Stark residents, and $7 for out-of-county residents.
Edible and Medicinal Plant Hike: Do you know which weeds can soothe a bee sting in seconds? Or which common plant could relieve your cough if made into an herbal tea? A program at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at Quail Hollow Park will help participants with the incredible connection to the natural world. Participants will not be harvesting or consuming wild plants during this program. No pets permitted. Registration is required for the free program.
Stewart Manor House Tour: Journey back in time while touring the 1920s-era Stewart Manor House at Quail Hollow Park from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. See the unique designs, hidden spaces and learn the stories of the Stewart family. The house has no elevator, so visitors must be prepared to take the stairs to explore all three floors. A fee of $5 per person or $20 per family, paid in cash at the door, goes toward the upkeep of the home. No registration is required.
Intro to Kayaking: Learn the techniques of kayaking at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19at Deer Creek Reservoir. Led by experienced instructors, this is a beginner class. Beginning on land, participants will learn the essentials of trip planning, types of paddling equipment and key safety practices while paddling. Participants then will take the skills onto the water to practice basic paddling techniques to kayak with confidence. No experience necessary. All necessary equipment is provided. Dress prepared to possibly get wet. Registration is required, and cost is $15 for Stark County residents, or $20 for out-of-county residents.
Stand Up Paddleboard: A beginner class at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Deer Creek Reservoir is designed for individuals eager to explore the fundamentals of Stand Up Paddleboarding. No prior experience necessary. All necessary equipment is provided. Dress prepared to possibly get wet. Registration is required, and cost is $15 for Stark residents, or $20 for out-of-county residents.
