Fundraiser gala to help those affected by cancer

AKRON – Stewart’s Caring Place will hold its Butterfly Gala outdoors starting at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at a private residence in Richfield. The event will celebrate the mission of Stewart’s Caring Place and raise funds to support individuals and families affected by cancer.

This year’s gala marks the five-year anniversary of the organization’s Fairlawn facility and celebrates the expansion of services to a new location in Canton.

Guests should wear cocktail party or garden party attire to enjoy dinner, live entertainment, testimonials from program participants, and live and silent auctions. All proceeds benefit Stewart’s Caring Place’s free support services, including counseling, wellness programs, wigs and prosthetics, support groups, and family programming.

Free concert at St. Helena Heritage Park

CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Summer Concert Series at St. Helena Heritage Park amphitheater, 123 Tuscarawas St. W, concludes with a Pearl Jam tribute from The Ten Band at 7 p.m. Aug. 15. The concert is free.

Walking tour set at West Lawn Cemetery

CANTON – McKinley Presidential Library & Museum archivist Mark G. Holland will lead a walking tour of West Lawn Cemetery at 10 a.m. Sept. 6 to learn about the lives, legacies, and local history of those interred there.

The cost is $15 per person. Preregistration is required at www.mckinleymuseum.org (under the events tab) or by calling 330-455-7043. The deadline for reservations is Aug. 28.

Stark County Bar Association plans art show

CANTON – The Stark County Bar Association’s 125-year anniversary celebration and art show extravaganza will be 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13 at Cyrus Art Gallery, 2645 Cleveland Ave. NW.

The art show and talent exhibit will showcase the work of local attorneys and those other local artists who have developed law-related art for the Bar Association’s anniversary celebration. Admission is free and will be open to the public on the opening night. The show will run until Oct. 3.

The extravaganza event will offer food, beverages, and the opportunity to view and purchase selected art and law-themed material. It also will include music, singing, and dancing.

String quintet to perform

CANTON – A free concert with a string quintet from the Canton Symphony Orchestra, part of the annual Summer Serenades in the Park concert series, will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Canton Garden Center, 1615 Stadium Park Drive NW. Canton Ballet enrolling for fall classes

CANTON – Canton Ballet is now enrolling at cantonballet.com for its fall dance classes that begin the week of Sept. 3. All age requirements for classes are determined as of Aug. 1. For more details, visit cantonballet.com. Class schedules are subject to change.

Ghost Film Festival at the Palace

CANTON – The Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N, will present Monster Bash: The Ghost Film Festival from 3 p.m. to midnight Aug. 15 and 16. The classic monster marathon and film festival will feature eight haunting and ghost movies, plus vendors, screenings, and a free prize toss.

Buy a nontransferable VIP Pass for $40 for all eight movies over two days at cantonpalacetheatre.org. Movie at Centennial Plaza

CANTON – The Centennial Plaza Movie Series concludes at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 with a showing of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on Centennial Plaza’s big screen. Pre-movie entertainment begins at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free.

Queen tribute concert

JACKSON TWP. – Queen Flash: A Queen Tribute will perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Nash Family Jackson Amphitheater, 7454 Community Parkway NW. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Parking is free. Bring a chair or blanket for seating. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase; cash is not accepted for alcohol purchases. Honky tonk music

LAKE TWP. – The show Zmed Brothers: Honky Tonk Harmonies will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Hartville Kitchen, 1015 Edison St. NW. Uniontown Lions Club festival

LAKE TWP. – The Uniontown Lions Club will hold its 30th annual festival on Aug. 13-16 on the grounds at the HRM Complex adjacent to the Hartville Marketplace.

The event will help raise funds for the support of the Lions Club’s various community service and outreach programs. This year’s festival theme is “Honoring First Responders.” The grand marshals will be the police chiefs and fire chiefs from the Uniontown and Hartville police and fire departments.

The festival consists of a 50/50 drawing twice nightly, rides, food vendors, product service vendors and other crafters, as well as live entertainment nightly. The car show will be 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 15. Bingo and other chance games are also available.

Free concerts at Duncan Plaza

MASSILLON – As part of the Massillon free summer concert series at the Duncan Plaza amphitheater, La Flavour will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 14, and Visinata will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 16. Bring a chair or blanket for seating.

Yoga at the Massillon Museum

MASSILLON – Lunchtime Yoga takes place on the Massillon Museum lawn from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Fridays with certified yoga instructors. Rain/cold location is inside the museum. Students must bring their own mats, and it is recommended that they bring their own props. This class is beginner friendly. All ages and levels are welcome. The cost is $6 per class or $15 per three-class bundle. Register upon arrival at the museum.

Medicare 101 program at library

NORTH CANTON ‒ The North Canton Public Library will offer the program Medicare 101: A Beginner’s Guide at 6 p.m. Aug. 11 for people turning 65 and becoming Medicare-eligible. Jay Culler, a licensed sales agent representing multiple carriers specializing in Medicare, will help attendees to better understand options for choosing coverage. 

Toto tribute show

PLAIN TWP. – A Child’s Anthem – The Music of Toto will perform from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Plain Township Amphitheater, 2600 Easton St. NE. Child’s Anthem lead singer Keith Landry toured and sang with Toto in their prime in the 1980s. For tickets, visit https://plaintownshipamphitheater.com/events.
