A Springfield Township man was arrested after allegedly threatening a witness in an ongoing case in Aurora.
According to a Facebook post on the Portage County Sheriff’s Office’s page, the Detective Bureau received a request from the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office to help with an ongoing investigation in Aurora.
An Aurora resident had been the victim of several crimes, the post stated, including aggravated burglary, abduction, strangulation and vandalism. A man was arrested in connection with the case, but the suspect was released on bond.
After the suspect’s release, the victim reported receiving “ongoing and threatening communications” from the suspect. “These threats included demands for her not to appear in court, threatening to kill her, and indications that he intended to return to her home,” according to the post.
Sheriff’s detectives obtained arrest warrants for the suspect, charging him with intimidation of a crime victim and violation of a protection order, both third-degree felonies. Portage sheriff’s deputies arrested him later that same day in Springfield Township in Summit County.
The man’s name was not disclosed in the Facebook post. Messages from the Record-Courier seeking additional information were left with the sheriff’s office.
After the man’s arrest, a search warrant was executed at his home in Springfield. The following items were recovered:
The sheriff’s office stated that the suspect is prohibited from possessing or acquiring firearms because he is under indictment for multiple felony charges, has prior felony convictions, and is the subject of an active protection order. This case was referred to the Portage County grand jury, and more charges may be filed, the post stated.
