Sporting News College Football Preview had Ohio State ranked highly

For those of you out there who have followed college football for longer than a few years, the release of the college football preview magazines was always something that pointed towards the start of the season when they hit the newsstands. But with print going the way of the rotary phones and record players, there aren’t as many out there.

One of those magazines I used to always look forward to being released was the Sporting News College Football Preview. However, that hasn’t been around for about a decade. Until now. Thanks to a collaboration with 10Ten Media and McClatchy Lifestyle & Entertainment, the publication is back, and you can get your hands on it at a store near you.

Seeing how it’s a national publication, we’re obviously interested in where Ohio State lands in its preseason rankings, and you may or may not be pleased to know that the Buckeyes are ranked No. 2 in the country and No. 2 in the Big Ten. That means there’s a Big Ten team that is above OSU, and if you guessed it to be the Indiana Hoosiers, then you win a pat on the proverbial back.

The Sporting News has the Hoosiers at No. 1, and following Ohio State’s No. 2 ranking is Georgia (3), Texas (4), Notre Dame (5), Oregon (6), Miami (FL) (7), Ole Miss (8), Oklahoma (9), and USC (10) rounding out the top ten.

As far as Big Ten teams go, joining Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC in the top 25 are Michigan (13), Penn State (17), Iowa (19), Illinois (22), and Washington (24).

This is another example of some of the national media ranking Ohio State very highly, but of course, it all means nothing if the Buckeyes don’t follow it up by navigating a very difficult schedule to make a run that could be memorable.
