Denison baseball advances to championship of DIII College World Series

Erik Sundgren and Cade Nowik each went 2 for 4 with a home run as top-seeded Denison defeated No. 8 East Texas Baptist 11-7 on June 1 in Eastlake, Ohio, to advance to the championship of the Division III World Series.

The Big Red (49-2) will face either No. 6 Endicott or No. 7 Adrian in a best-of-three title series beginning at 11 a.m. June 3. Game 2 will be at 11 a.m. June 4. Game 3, if necessary, will 45 minutes after the end of Game 2.

Kelly Crittenberger had three RBIs for the Big Red in the win over East Texas Baptist. Denison used three pitchers. Will Rettig pitched six innings, allowing one run on three three hits. Max Mullen pitched two innings, and Ryan Paganelis closed it with one shutout inning.

Denison trailed 7-3 after six innings, but a seven-run seventh blew it open. Nowik and Sundgren both hit two-run homers in the inning.
