Summit Country Day remains unbeaten with 2-1 win over Indian Hill

It was a tale of two halves at Wright State University’s Alumni Field, with Summit Country Day ultimately prevailing 2-1 to advance to the state semifinals.

In the first half, Indian Hill controlled the pace of play. Kaylee Vandermark scored the opening goal just 10 minutes into the match on a fast-developing solo attack. The Braves stayed on the offensive all half, but the Silver Knights started to build some momentum into halftime with shots on goal.

Summit Country Day head coach Mike Fee credited his team for taking charge at halftime.

“I didn’t have to say much at halftime,” said Fee. “The captains said everything I knew we would need to say.”

Senior captain Mia Stevens shed some light on what their discussion looked like.

“We need to play our game and play the way we know how to play,” said Stevens. “That fire under us when we were down led us to come back.”

The Silver Knights dominated the second half of the match, unleashing a relentless offense. The Silver Knights scored twice in a four-minute stretch, with Cameron Lorentz and Aubrey Blakely knocking in assisted goals. The ball rarely crossed mid-field, and a few last-second shots fell short for Indian Hill to seal the game.

The loss brings a terrific Indian Hill season to a close as the team finishes 17-2-3. Head coach Amy Dunlap had nothing but praise for her team’s senior class after the match.

“This senior class is something special,” Dunlap said. “The culture they created, being all about the team, I just can’t speak more highly of this group.”

Indian Hill graduates 10 seniors from this year’s roster. The list: Meran Phelps, Sam Reindl, Ashley O’Brien, Ainsley Johnson, Sabrina Mangialardo, Kenzie Holum, Caroline Rinala, Simone Billock, Lily Sacks, and Stella Bosley.

Summit Country Day finds itself back in the state semifinals for the third consecutive season, having won back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024.

“We set it as a goal before the season started,” said Fee.

“It means so much to me,” Stevens said. “This is the best part of my high school career.”

Summit Country Day will take the field against the winner of Ottawa-Glandorf and Niles McKinley on Nov. 4.
