Saw a large plane flying low over Columbus? Here's why

If you saw a large military plane flying low over downtown Columbus, don’t worry – it was for a Memorial Day event.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine held an annual wreath-laying ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of May 21 to honor Ohio’s fallen soldiers. The ceremony took place on the Ohio Statehouse steps on the 3rd Street side of the building.

As part of the ceremony, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base conducted a flyover at about 11 a.m.

Flight tracking website FlightAware showed that a plane departed from Wright Patterson Airforce Base at 11:04 a.m. in the Dayton area, circled in the air southwest of Columbus, and flew over downtown Columbus before heading back to Wright Patterson.

The event also featured a rifle salute provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
