NEW PHILADELPHIA ‒ Kent State University at Tuscarawas is sponsoring the 25th annual scholarship golf outing May 15, at Oak Shadows Golf Club, 1063 Oak Shadows Drive NE. It is a four-player, 18-hole scramble. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Greens fees include lunch and steak dinner.
The registration deadline is May 8. All proceeds benefit Alumni Legacy Scholarships for students at Kent State Tuscarawas. The event is open to all. Several levels of sponsorship are available.

Outpatient addiction clinic opening
NEW PHILADELPHIA − Eagle HealthWorks will open a new outpatient addiction treatment clinic in New Philadelphia, with a grand opening and ribbon cutting from noon to 1 p.m. May 21, at 1243 Monroe St NW.
The clinic will provide substance use disorder treatment, including counseling, case management, medication-assisted treatment, detox support, and access to Narcan through Project DAWN. Services also include coordination of hepatitis C treatment. The Ohio-based organization focuses on integrated medical and therapeutic care to support recovery and promote healthier communities.
Vintage fashion show at Reeves
DOVER ‒ A Born to Be Wild vintage fashion show will be held May 4-5 in the Reeves Museum Carriage House, 325 E. Iron Ave. Each piece presented will draw inspiration from the natural world and the sophistication of past eras.
A cocktail hour is scheduled for 6:15 p.m., followed by the fashion show at 7 p.m. Admission is $35, or $30 for Reeves Museum members. Wine will be available as will raffle baskets. Time capsule to be dug up 50 years later
BOLIVAR − A time capsule buried in 1976 at Bolivar Elementary School will be dug up at 4 p.m. May 16, by the then fifth-grade students who buried it. Village officials will meet the former students at the site with a detector and probe.

FCCLA members place at state
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Four Buckeye Career Center Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members recently competed and placed at the Ohio FCCLA State Leadership Conference.
The team of Serenitee Portillo (Indian Valley) and Shelbie Huffman (Dover) earned silver in Interpersonal Communication, while Maggie Smith (Newcomerstown) earned first place and silver in lesson plan development.
Additionally, Maya Fierbaugh (Strasburg) earned bronze in Baking and Pastry.
Camp Canopy set, scholarships available
CARROLLTON – Camp Canopy, Ohio’s forestry and wildlife camp, will be held June 7-12. Students who have completed eighth grade through high school seniors graduating in 2026 can attend. Household hazardous waste collection
DOVER – The Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District and the Tuscarawas County Health Department will hold a household hazardous waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9, at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds, 259 S. Tuscarawas Ave. To drop off hazardous waste at this event, you must make an appointment at www.timetorecycle.org/resources/schedule-an-appointment. You must bring your driver’s license with you. Tapestries reception and plant sale
DOVER – A community reception for the unveiling of the latest edition of Tapestries of Tuscarawas County will be held at 2 p.m. May 9, at the Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St. It is a literary and oral history journal published annually that includes work by people with Tuscarawas County connections. Copies will be available for $10.Contributing authors can read portions of their work at the reception. The top submissions in art/photography and written expression will receive a cash prize.
Additionally, the library’s annual plant sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon May 9. Proceeds will be used to purchase and care for plants at the library. Donated plants for the sale can be left in the area of benches in the back parking lot May 7 through the morning of the sale. Visitors bureau open house
NEW PHILADELPHIA ‒ An open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. May 6, at the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, 124 E. High Ave., to celebrate Travel Tusc 250 and National Tourism Week. Travel Tusc Tickets (free admission for county residents) will be distributed, and the 2025 Tourism Ambassador of the Year and the Excellence in Hospitality Awards will be announced at 5 p.m.
Blood drives scheduled
The Red Cross will conduct blood drives from 1 to 6 p.m. May 6, at First United Church of Christ in Sugarcreek and noon to 6 p.m. May 12, at New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia.

Alumni awards ceremony
UHRICHSVILLE – The Claymont Foundation will host its annual Alumni Awards Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. May 9, at Claymont High School. The ceremony will include the presentation of scholarships to current Claymont seniors, Buckeye Career Center students, and college and technical students who graduated from Claymont. In addition, 2026 alumni award winners Jeff White, Toby Norris, Amy Myers, Brent Wolfe and Jacob Baldwin will be recognized.
Fire department benefit ham dinner
WILMOT – The Wilmot Fire Department, 204 Mill St., will have a carryout ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 10. Drive-thru pickup will be in front of the fire station where volunteers will deliver meals to vehicles. Dinners are $12, and correct change is requested. Proceeds will benefit the volunteer department.
Meetings
● The Tuscarawas County Budget Commission has scheduled a special meeting for May 5, at the county annex building in New Philadelphia. The purpose is to review school district budgets for fiscal year 2027. Each district will be allocated 30 minutes.
● The Tuscarawas County Board of Revision will meet from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. May 6 and 9 to 11:30 a.m. May 7, at the county annex building in New Philadelphia.
● The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 14, at the Dover Library. The featured presenter will be Dr. Joan Cashin, who will present on her book, “War Stuff: The Struggle for Human and Environmental Resources in the American Civil War.” Cashin is an award-winning scholar of 19-century American history and professor of history at The Ohio State University.
