Roundup: Lakewood picks up home baseball win

Jalen White racked up three hits, including a triple, two runs and three RBIs April 18, fueling the Lakewood baseball team in a 12-5 victory against visiting John Glenn.

Tegan Riley had three hits, three runs and an RBI for the Lancers (3-7), who jumped out to a 6-2 lead after one inning. Garrett Hardway added a double and three runs, Grayson Ullman a solo home run and Ashton Tackett a hit and an RBI. Brayden Christman struck out five and allowed one hit and an unearned run in four innings of relief.

Heath tripped up at home

Camden Stephens notched two hits, a run and an RBI for Heath in an 8-4 loss to visiting Ridgewood.

Quentin Sunkle added two doubles and a run. Jamison Walsh had two hits and a run. Trevor Enders recorded a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs (6-4). 

GCA falls on road

Berne Union scored four runs in the fifth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and sending visiting Granville Christian to a 7-1 defeat.

Aiden Geiger and Jordan Stump each singled, and Josiah Green scored a run for the Lions (3-6).

Granville blanked twice

Granville fell 10-0 and 4-0 at Dover.

Wilson Wells singled for the Blue Aces (3-5) in the first game. Wells, Jake Johnson and Jakob Culver each singled in the second game, and Keaton Feeley struck out six and allowed six hits and two runs in four innings.

SOFTBALL

Johnstown sweeps Highland

Johnstown beat visiting Highland 10-0 and 13-4.

In the first game, Addy Zak homered, tripled and doubled, scored three runs and knocked in three for the Johnnies (11-3-1). Jenna Hochanadel added two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Abigail Wood had two hits, a run and two RBIs. Addy Hall tallied a hit, a run and an RBI. Wood also struck out four without in a walk in five three-hit innings.

Wood and Lucia Kuhn recorded two hits, a run and two RBIs in the second game. Reese Lyons added a double, two runs and two RBIs, while Violet Wentzel recorded a hit, a run and an RBI.

Granville drops home game

Sydney Cottrill doubled twice and singled and scored a run for Granville in an 11-4 loss to visiting Marysville.

Aubrey Lackey added three hits and an RBI; Carly Wollenberg a hit, a run and an RBI; and Alysa Stephens and Jillian Brownfield a hit and a run apiece for the Blue Aces (5-10). 

Liberty falls on road

Kayla Feeney totaled two hits and a run in Liberty Christian’s 14-2 loss at Grandview Heights.

Izzy Parson added two hits and Katelyn Nestor had a hit and two RBIs for the Eagles (2-7).

TRACK

Watkins splits squad

Nathan Arheit crossed in a time of 2 minutes, 12.82 seconds to win the 800-meter run for the Watkins Memorial boys during the Bloom-Carroll Invitational. Jamayn Crawford matched Arheit with a victory in the 300 hurdles (46.16).

On April 17, Watkins’ Ethan Martinez, Chase Marcum, Connor Black and Pierce Lott combined to win the 3,200 relay (8:14.50) during the New Albany Invitational. Ethan Martinez, Eduardo Martinez, Black and Marcum later took runner-up in the 1,600 relay (3:25.48).

Eduardo Martinez added a pair of individual runner-up finishes in the 300 hurdles (39.41) and long jump (19 feet, 5.25 inches). Ethan Martinez took runner-up in the high jump (6-2), as did Ray Hardiman in the 100 (11.01).

Johnstown takes runner-up

Two Johnstown girls won individual events April 17 to lead the Johnnies to a runner-up team finish at Grandview Heights’ Bobcat Boosters Invitational.

Mia Beavers crossed in a time of 18.26 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles, and Ava Ruffle covered a distance of 15 feet, 9 inches to win the long jump. The Johnnies totaled 108 points, trailing the host Bobcats’ 199.

In the boys meet, Cameron Beverick won the 800 (1:59.68), and Cristian Campese won the 200 (23.95) for the Johnnies. Beverick, Campese, Mason Toney and Jesse Pittman combined to finish first in the 800 relay (1:36.17). Beverick, Toney, Kason Mast and Anthony Muscarello won the 1,600 relay (3:38.54).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Granville wins at home

Camryn Goss piled up four goals and picked up six ground balls, leading Granville to a 9-6 victory against visiting Bellbrook.

Ellie Brower and Evie Sanders added two goals apiece. Mabel Messner scored a goal, and Brooke Smith recorded an assist for the Blue Aces. Ellie Alexander made eight saves.
