Reese Lyons was a perfect 4 for 4 in a relentless offensive attack for the Johnstown softball team April 3 as the Johnnies rolled past visiting Lynchburg-Clay 23-2.
Lyons knocked in four runs for the Johnnies (4-0-1), who scored 10 runs in the first inning. Ten players had a hit, and 11 scored a run.
“This year, our team chemistry, everyone is just so tight and so friendly,” Lyons said. “It’s such a great environment. Our positivity pushes us through even our hard games.”
Abigail Wood homered and drove in a team-high five runs. Lucia Kuhn added three hits and two RBIs, Addy Zak three hits and three runs and Jenna Hochanadel and Riley Stefanick a combined four hits, four runs and five RBIs out of the top two spots in the order.
Kuhn struck out eight in 3 2/3 innings, reaching 100 for her career, and allowed two hits and one earned run. Wood struck out three.
“Having the same team twice, we have just built on everything we created last year,” Lyons said.
Lakewood wins in seventh
Ashlyn Carder’s walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Lakewood a 5-4 victory against visiting Dublin Coffman.
Jaycie Montie added a two-run double and Cora Redman, Averie Adams and Briana Hoisington a hit and a run each for the Lancers (5-3), who answered after Coffman tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh. Allie Stimmel struck out five and allowed two hits and a run in four innings of relief.
Newark falls on road
Bella Keck and Savannah Woody each finished 3 for 3, combining for two runs and an RBI in Newark’s 11-5 loss at Upper Arlington.
Lauren Queen added three hits and an RBI, Nyree Street two hits and a run and Amora Spring and Maygen Woody a hit, a run and an RBI apiece for the Wildcats (1-6).
Utica drops home game
Visiting Danville used a 10-run second inning to grab control and send Utica to an 18-7 loss.
Emily Meyers hit a solo home run and led Utica (3-2) with two hits and two runs. Katie Kidd added a hit, two runs and an RBI and Kiersten Hull two hits and an RBI.
