Roundup: Baughman hits milestone in Johnstown girls basketball win

Lauren Baughman eclipsed 1,000 career points for her Johnstown girls basketball career Feb. 12 during a 47-26 victory at Newark Catholic to wrap up Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Payton Schneider buried five 3-pointers as a part of a 17-point performance to lead the Johnnies (17-4, 15-1). Baughman added 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals and Cylah Cox four assists.

Sydney Gummer led the Green Wave (6-16, 2-14) with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Watkins edged at home

Visiting Liberty Union (12-9) had a 19-13 edge during the fourth quarter, sending Watkins Memorial to a 57-53 defeat.

Kamryn Caldwell stuffed the stat sheet, piling up 22 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead the Warriors (5-15), who used a 24-12 edge in the second quarter to take a 30-26 halftime lead. Anam Mohamed added 11 points and Casey Wheeler 10.

Heights nipped at home

A 17-12 advantage in the fourth quarter for visiting Marion Harding (10-11) sent Licking Heights to a 46-44 defeat.

Darianna Barnes racked up 21 points to lead the Hornets (12-10). Kendyl Hunt added 10 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

GCA falls

Granville Christian fell into a 14-2 hole after the first quarter during a 48-39 loss at Madison Christian (2-19, 2-12) in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Aidan Rhoads scored 17 points to lead the Lions (4-16, 4-9). Josh Benvie added 9 points.
