Rep. Greg Landsman, a Democrat, said in a statement on June 16 that Capital police officers told him the FBI had found his name among the evidence collected while searching for the suspect in Minnesota. He said the Cincinnati Police Department provided extra security for him and his family while the suspect was at large.

“I’m extremely thankful to the Cincinnati Police Department for their quick assistance and to Capitol Police for their guidance,” Landsman said. “We are relieved the suspect has been arrested.”

Investigators found a list of names and addresses of other public officials in suspect Vance Boelter’s vehicle, along with three AK-47 rifles and a handgun. Boelter is accused of shooting and killing Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and shooting State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.

Who is Rep. Greg Landsman?

Landsman represents Ohio’s 1st District, which includes the city of Cincinnati, parts of Hamilton County, and all of Warren County.

After two Israeli embassy staff were killed outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington in May, Landsman released a statement about the concern he has as a Jewish member of Congress about being shot and killed when he’s in large crowds.

“We allow people to ‘otherize’ and demonize folks, and we forget to appreciate that it often turns violent. Everyone has to do a better job of ensuring disagreements don’t lead to this disturbing and dangerous process,” he said.
