WASHINGTON − Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene will undergo a second surgical procedure on his right elbow in the near future, Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall announced. The upcoming surgery will also end Greene’s truncated 2026 season.
Krall said it was decided Greene would have surgery on his right elbow after the 2024 MLB All-Star received medical opinions from Reds team doctor, Dr. Timothy Kremcheck, and Los Angeles-based orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
The date of the procedure hadn’t been decided as of the afternoon of Aug. 7, and a timeline for Greene’s recovery wouldn’t be known until the surgery was complete. Krall acknowledged the surgery will be season-ending for Greene, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 5.
“Both (doctors) said that when you go in there, you’re gonna find out what it is and go from there,” Krall said. “It’s going to be some sort − the ligament was failing. It’s going to be some sort of procedure around the ligament. The extent of it is not going to be known until they go in, have the surgery and find out what’s inside.”
Greene underwent surgery on the elbow March 11 to remove bone chips from the right elbow.
