Softball

Roosevelt 7, Cuyahoga Falls 6

Freshmen Addy Dunlap and Emelia Gates delivered big performances as the Rough Riders won their third straight game to start the season. Gates went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Dunlap also had multiple hits, including a double, for Roosevelt (3-0, 3-0 Suburban American). Brynn Moser earned the complete-game win, striking out nine batters.

Aurora 7, St. Vincent-St. Mary 3

Down 3-1, the Greenmen rallied for four runs in the bottom of the third, tacking on a run apiece in the fourth and fifth. Abby Dalessandro doubled twice while Rachel Devenish homered and singled to lead Aurora (5-1). Charlotte Sorma also had multiple hits for the Greenmen, while Abbigail Ferree impressed in the circle with 3⅔ scoreless innings in relief.

Baseball

Roosevelt 4, Copley 3

Down 2-0, the Rough Riders rallied to victory, scoring one run in the fourth and three in the sixth. Teddy Maccarone reached base in all three of his plate appearances, with a double, two walks and two runs. He also tossed 1⅔ innings of scoreless relief to pick up the save. Fellow senior Nick Roberts allowed just three runs (one earned) in 5⅓ innings to pick up the win. Sophomore Oliver Walter singled, walked and drove in two runs while junior Aiken Benshoff added a double, run and RBI for Roosevelt (1-0, 1-0 Suburban American).

Southeast 10, Jackson-Milton 0

The Pirates took firm control with a four-run bottom of the first, scoring in four of five innings overall. Five Southeast players recorded two hits apiece: Dan Clint, Caden Dillon, Nate Muccino, Cohen Richardson and Braedyn Walden. Clint led the Pirates with three RBIs while Joe Sharish scored a game-high three runs. That was plenty of offense for Caden Dillon and Devyn Miller, who combined on a one-hit shutout, with Dillon tossing the first four innings and Miller pitching the last. The two didn’t walk a single batter.

Coventry 10, Streetsboro 5

The Comets won thanks to a trio of three-run innings — in the third, fourth and sixth. The Rockets fell despite Scott Wilson’s 3-for-3 performance, including a double, two stolen bases and two runs.

Tuesday, March 31

Softball

Waterloo 16, Western Reserve 6

Mackenzie Marsh hit two homers and drove in four runs as the Vikings moved to 3-0. Kristlyn Kehrer added two doubles while Jolean Hampton drew three walks, scored three runs and got the win in the circle to move to 3-0. Baseball

Southeast 4, Garfield 0

Joe Sharish tossed a gem for the Pirates (1-0, 1-0 MVAC Grey Tier), delivering six innings of shutout baseball. The senior scattered just two hits and a walk and struck out 10. Cohen Richardson got the save, striking out two in his inning of work. The junior also went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI while Dan Clint and Alaunte Massrock added two hits and an RBI apiece.

Brandyn Bogucki had two of the G-Men’s three hits while Garet Warnick tossed all six innings for Garfield (0-1, 0-1).

Aurora 13, Cuyahoga Falls 0

Gabe Cooch and Rocco Zembala combined on a five-inning no-hitter. Cooch walked a couple of batters over three innings but was mostly spotless, helped by a critical double play turned behind him by first baseman Drew Scott. Zembala pitched two perfect innings in relief for the Greenmen (1-1, 1-0 Suburban American), striking out a pair of batters. Elijah Shim led Aurora at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and worked a 10-pitch walk to boot.

Howland 12, Streetsboro 1

The Rockets fell despite two singles from Jayden Coffie and a double from Joey DeToro.

The top of the lineup fueled the Tigers with their first three hitters — Bode Biggin, Keaton Perry and Richie Ansel — recording two hits apiece. Ansel and Perry were particularly deadly with two doubles apiece and a combined five RBIs.

St. Bede Academy 3, Ravenna 2

The Ravens fell despite a solid performance from Connor Welling, who allowed three runs in six innings (and struck out seven) and also had a single at the plate.

Field 15, Warren JFK 4

Sam Confer tossed four scoreless innings for the Falcons, striking out six. Field also had a dominant performance offensively, scoring in each of the first four innings, including a seven-run third. The Falcons’ first three hitters — Joey Conroy, Nick Cultrona and Caden Kolesar — went a combined 7 for 10 with six RBIs.

Softball

Waterloo 12, Western Reserve 1

Jolean Hampton delivered all over the field for the Vikings, tossing a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and also recording four hits (and scoring four runs) at the plate. Hampton came a homer shy of the cycle with two singles, a double and a triple. Kristlyn Kehrer also starred for Waterloo (2-0, 2-0 MVAC Scarlet Tier) with a single, a double and four RBIs, while Hailey Graening drove three runs home.

Southeast 3, Garfield 1

Savannah Powell helped the Pirates (2-0, 1-0 MVAC Grey) prevail in a pitchers’ duel, scattering a single run on two hits and two walks in six innings of work. Powell struck out 10 and also went 3 for 3 at the plate, including a double and two RBIs. Liv Bragg recorded the save, working her way around a hit and a walk in the seventh. Morgan Muncy reached base in all three of her plate appearances with two walks and a single.

Olivia Bailey took the hard-luck loss for the G-Men despite holding a dangerous Pirates lineup to just three runs.

Aurora 26, Cuyahoga Falls 2

Lailah Bohanan and Charlotte Sorma had four hits apiece to pace the Greenmen, combining for five RBIs and six runs. Rachel Devenish added a pair of homers and a game-high seven RBIs for Aurora (4-1, 1-0 Suburban American) while Lila Bultrowicz doubled twice.
