From the sounds of things at training camp, a very popular Cincinnati Bengals rookie could be headed for an interesting role next year if he makes the team.
Landon Robinson is certainly on his way.
The super-popular seventh-round pick by the Bengals, in addition to his defensive duties, has already been getting a look or two at fullback on offense.
Robinson is just happy to help coming out of a successful preseason debut, of course.
“It was cool being able to get my feet under me. Get that confidence in an NFL game,” Robinson said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “I think it was a pretty solid performance, but there’s always room for improvement.”
But fullback? That’s fun, with linebacker Barrett Carter telling Hobson the following about Robinson: “He’s going to be a nightmare whether he’s on offense or defense. I’m glad he’s on our team… that’s a strong man right there.”
Robinson isn’t a roster lock, but he’s flashed on defense and coaches giving him unique chances elsewhere is probably a good sign.
Fittring, too. Because of his size and game, some Bengals fans were reminded of all-time great Geno Atkins when Robinson arrived. But if he’s getting fullback looks, he’ll remind some of a guy named Domata Peko, too.
