Local author Gregory Fry has published a book chronicling the history of football in Cincinnati Public Schools, including a dive into the 50-year history of the Elder and Western Hills Thanksgiving Day rivalry.
“Conquering the Hill” is subtitled “The Remarkable Journey to the Greatest Gridiron Victory in Cincinnati Public Schools History.”
Fry examines many Cincinnati Public Schools victories over 100 years of playing football, including Western Hills’ 6-0 win over Elder in the 1978 and final Thanksgiving Day Classic between the West Side institutions.
Other focuses include the gridiron career of Pete Rose, the history of the LaRosa’s High School Sports Hall of Fame, Paul Brown’s impact on high school football across the state and Moeller’s legendary coach Gerry Faust’s contribution to a West Side youth football program.
Fry’s book was published through Orange Frazer Press, an independent book publisher in Wilmington. The book can be purchased by clicking through this link to the publisher’s website.
