A person was hospitalized Tuesday after police fired their weapons in response to seeing that person brandish a firearm in Madisonville, officials said.
Interim Chief Adam Hennie said they were sent to a residence on Haley Avenue around 2 p.m. along with Veterans Affairs social workers to perform a welfare check. He said after they arrived the person brandished a firearm.
The officer fired shots, Hennie said. The person was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.
No officers were injured, Hennie said. The department will provide more information in an Oct. 29 press conference, he said.
Interim Chief Hennie’s second appearance at shooting since promotion
Hennie addressed media for the first time since becoming interim chief Oct. 22.
That same day, a Cincinnati police officer fired at an 18-year-old in Winton Hills.
Police said Marvonni Finnerson drove his car repeatedly into an occupied cruiser during the attempt to pull him over. Finnerson threw a firearm into the woods and ran before an officer fired at him and missed, according to a press release.
Hennie became acting chief after City Manager Sheryl Long placed Police Chief Teresa Theetge on paid administrative leave Oct. 20. The city is looking into “the effectiveness of her leadership” over the police department, according to a statement.
