SUGAR CREEK TWP. − A New Philadelphia man has died after a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Route 250 on Feb. 26.
The Canton post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reports that Gaspar Cedillo Lopez, 28, of New Philadelphia was pronounced dead at Aultman Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Lopez was a front-seat passenger of a 2002 Toyota RAV4 traveling northwest on U.S. Route 250. It collided with a 2024 black GMC Sierra traveling southeast on the same roadway. The Toyota traveled left of center and struck the GMC Sierra head-on, the Highway Patrol said.
Three of the four occupants in the RAV4 were thrown from the vehicle. Lopez required extrication by the fire department.
All occupants were transported by EMS to Cleveland Clinic Mercy and Aultman hospitals. Seat belts were not in use by the occupants of the RAV4, according to the Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Toyota RAV4 is unable to be identified at this time. The driver of the GMC truck is a 31-year-old man from Clinton Township, Michigan. He sustained minor injuries and was transported by Beach City EMS to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton.

The crash remains under investigation.
