Czarnecki overcame a shaky first period when Staugler actually got a couple of decent looks at him. Czarnecki happily takes the scoreless first, then escapes to start the second, followed by a merry-go-round scramble as he and Staugler flew around in circles. Eventually, Czarnecki got the go-behind for the 4-0 lead, then added a gorgeous single to start the third, thus taking full control of the match.

Prosperi takes Napier down one more time to win.

Jarreau Walker (Streetsboro) t.f. Ethan Lewis (Roger Bacon), 18-1

“Roro” takes down Lewis and kicks him immediately. He hits a blast double and it’s 6-1 just 34 seconds in. Walker turns him for two and it’s 8-1 after one. Walker chooses down and reverses Lewis to his back for four. Another set of nearfalls ends the match in the second period.

The great story of Berquist, who won just one match at district a year ago, continues. The Red Devils junior was thoroughly dominant in his state debut. He lifted O’Neal maybe 30 seconds in and toppled him onto his chest for a quick three. He followed a similar recipe in the second, with an escape, takedown and then smothered O’Neal for the duration of the period. He totally controlled that match.

Another impressive debut as Cantera dominates his state opener and the Pirates go 3-0 in the opening round. Cantera started with a double that Laird resisted for a bit but Cantera ultimately got behind him for three. Cantera ended up racking up 13 points in the opening period. Down 13-2, Laird attempted a double on Cantera to start the second period. It looked decent, but Cantera was able to repel him, trip him and then put Laird on his back for the pin.

Kemble showed no fear in his state debut. The freshman landed a slick single midway through the first to take a 3-0 lead into the break. He added another shot midway through the second, then practically tackled Dentz as part of a third-period onslaught. Kemble ended up scoring 15 points in the third period.

What is the state wrestling tournament schedule?

Divisions I, II, III and the girls tournament run one right after the other starting with Division III and concluding with the girls on Friday, March 13. The format is the same Saturday, March 14 in the morning before all three run at the same time until the afternoon session when they run at the same time. On Sunday, March 15, they follow the Saturday evening formant.

Division III: Friday, March 13 – 1 p.m./3:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 14 – 9:30 a.m./10:50 p.m.; 5:30 p.m./7:25 p.m.; Sunday, March 15 – 9:30 a.m./10:45 a.m./5:15 p.m.
