Ohio State Highway Patrol investigating multi-vehicle crash

MARGARETTA TOWNSHIP – The Ohio State Highway Patrol Sandusky Post is investigating a serious injury, multiple-vehicle crash on July 8 at about 3:29 p.m. on Ohio 2 in Erie County at the Edison Bridge.

Cecil Venable Jr, 47, of Vickery, was driving a 2024 Mack Terrapro garbage truck, owned by Rumpke Transportation, eastbound on Ohio 2 when he struck multiple vehicles in traffic caused by a construction lane change.

Vehicles involved included a red 2016 Toyota Camry, a gray 2017 Kia Soul, a white 2015 Mercedes Benz C Class, a black 2018 Mercedes Benz GLE, a black 2006 GMC Yukon XL, a black 2015 GMC Terrain and a black 2014 Ford Escape. The sequence of events and extent of driver injuries was unknown and the crash remains under investigation.

Alcohol and drug use does not appear to be a factor in the crash and all drivers were wearing their seat belts. Charges have not been filed at this time.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by Sandusky Fire Department, Sandusky EMS, Margaretta Fire Department, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Danbury Police Department, Madison Motors, Bubbas Towing, Kens Towing, Dons Towing, Maags Towing and Central Automotive.

The patrol reported the bridge was reopened by 7 p.m. July 8 in Erie County.
