Ohio State tight end Bennett Christian will be unavailable for the Buckeyes’ final nonconference game against Ohio.
The Buckeyes added Christian to their list of unavailable players released two hours ahead of kickoff on Sept. 13.
The availability report submitted to the Big Ten did not disclosure the nature of the injury or issue sidelining Christian. It only listed the redshirt junior and nine others as out against the Bobcats, who visit Ohio Stadium for the first time since 2010.
Christian is one of the Buckeyes’ top backup tight ends and used in heavy personnel packages to help support the ground game. Twenty-two of his 32 snaps (68.8%) through two games have been in a role as a run blocker, according to Pro Football Focus. He has also caught two passes for 7 yards.
Max LeBlanc, a redshirt freshman tight end, has been out this year as well, but the Buckeyes are especially deep at the position. Four tight ends caught passes in last week’s rout of Grambling State.
