The Grizzly Invitational Tournament turns 40 this year, and the ruby edition should be off the hook.
Eighteen teams will be at Wadsworth on Saturday, Jan. 24. Among those, 10 projected state champions are in the field as well as 65 wrestlers ranked at the top of their respective weight classes.

Urijah Lopez wins 138-pound Grizzly Invitational Tournament title
Urijah Lopez (Perrysburg) d. Mason Bauer (Ashland), 4-1, OT
Lopez is the aggressor in the first period, but Bauer holds off any scoring to make it a scoreless first period. Bauer chooses down to start the second. Bauer escapes 36 seconds into the second period. Lopez chooses down to start the third and is out immediately to make it 1-1. Lopez scores a takedown with three seconds left in overtime.
Alex Denkins wins 132-pound Grizzly Invitational Tournament title
Alex Denkins (Perrysburg) d. Wyatt Lees (DCC), 2-1, 3OT
Kind of a feeling out period for both wrestlers but no scoring. Denkins chooses down and is out in nine seconds. It’s 1-0 heading to the third. Lees takes down and is out in eight seconds it’s 1-1.
Lees with a takedown attempt, Denkins with the whizzer to hold it off 30 seconds in. Denkins with a duck under at the buzzer but it’s called off and we head to overtime.
Denkins with a body lock but the two go out of bounds. Denkins fends off a late takedown to go to 30-30s.
Lees chooses down to start 30-30s but is ridden out. Denkins turn to go down and he escapes with seven seconds left.
Grey Burnett wins 126-pound Grizzly Invitational Tournament title
Grey Burnett (Perrysburg) t.f. Joshua Sheets (DCC), 19-4
Burnett with an inside cradle to Sheets’ back makes it 7-0 early. Sheets avoids a pin and gets a reversal with 41 seconds left. Burnett escapes with three seconds left. It’s 7-3 Burnett to start the second. Burnett chooses down escapes, scores a takedown and kicks Sheets to make it 12-3 after the second period. Sheets chooses down. Burnett chooses optional start to make it 12-4. Burnett with a takedown at 1:41. Sheets escapes. Burnett with a takedown to finish the match.
Ayden Dodd wins 120-pound Grizzly Invitational Tournament
Ayden Dodd (Perrysburg) d. Brandon Bickerton (Highland), 7-2
Dodd takes down Bickerton with 42 seconds left in the first period. Bickerton escapes with 19 seconds left. It’s 3-1 Dodd heading to the second period. Dodd chooses down and escapes in nine seconds. It’s 4-1 to start the third. Bickerton chooses down and is out six seconds in to make it 4-2. Dodd with a takedown with 19 seconds left.
Bodey Gibbs wins 113-pound Grizzly Invitational Tournament title
Bodey Gibbs (Columbia) d. Connor Bagdonas (Perrysburg), 1-0
Each wrestler had one solid chance to score, neither did. It’s a scoreless first period. Bagdonas chooses down but is ridden out by Gibbs. It’s 1-0 Gibbs heading to the third. Gibbs takes down. Gibbs escapes with 52 seconds left.
Colin Bagdonas wins 106-pound Grizzly Invitational Tournament title

Bagdonas with a takedown 65 seconds into things. It’s 3-0 after one. Bagdonas chooses down and escapes early. Bagdonas cradles Boller up and picks up four back points and gets the pin with 37 seconds left in the second period.
