HEATH – The Matthew Offers Jr. Memorial Blood Drive is being held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25 at Christ Lutheran Church, 732 Hebron Road, in Heath.
The event is in its sixth year and is in memory of Heath student Matthew Offers Jr. The event is sponsored by Heath High School.
Offers was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a congenital heart defect, which led to many complications during his life, including a stroke at 6 months old. He died Sept. 16, 2018, just two days after ninth birthday.
For those that cannot attend, the American Red Cross donation center, 225 North 21st St., in Newark is open several days a week, and an appointment can be made at its web site. Various donation opportunities offer a discount on movie tickets or a Kings Island ticket.
The Red Cross recently announced an emergency blood shortage. Blood supply fell nearly 25% in June, and use for the blood donations include transfusions for cancer patients.
