Multiple break-ins reported across downtown Zanesville; police arrest suspect

ZANESVILLE ‒ One person was taken into custody on May 8, a day after a spree of break-ins across downtown Zanesville.

The suspect was apprehended by Zanesville Police Department with the help of an eyewitness’s description and surveillance footage, officials said in an announcement.

The suspect reportedly broke into five locations on Main, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh streets.

The eyewitness saw the suspect in an establishment, who then fled the scene. The witness provided a description to police, but a search did not immediately yield any results.

Authorities opened an investigation and found evidence and video surveillance from several locations, which were later used to identify and arrest a suspect.

The case will be next be presented to the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
