Flash flood warning for parts of Franklin and Delaware counties; AEP restores power to most

A flash flood warning remains in effect for northeastern Franklin County and southwestern Delaware County until 5:30 p.m., but AEP crews have restored power to the vast majority of thousands of customers in Delaware and Franklin counties who were hit by outages.

Between 1 and 2 inches of rain had already fallen in those areas of Franklin and Delaware counties with another half-inch to an inch possible, according to National Weather Service radar.

“Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly,” the weather service warned.

Locations that may experience flash flooding include Powell, Dublin, Westerville, Upper Arlington, Gahanna, Hilliard, Worthington, Minerva Park, Polaris, Easton, Shawnee Hills, Riverlea, Clintonville, Lewis Center, Huber Ridge and the Columbus Zoo.

As of 3:45 p.m., the number of AEP customers reporting outages dropped from more than 3,400 people to around 46 people in Franklin County. Power has been restored to all customers in Delaware County, according to an AEP outage map. The utility originally estimated restoration times at between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

The outages had affected a large area north and northwest of Route 161 in New Albany and east of Hoover Reservoir, extending north through Harlem Township and Center Village Road all the way to Delaware County EMS Station 9, the outage map showed.
